I thought that this reminded me a bit of an animated version of that Harry Chapin song "Cat's in the Cradle". It starts with a dad taking his young daughter on a bit of a road trip and then over the next five minutes it follows her growing up, growing distant, living her own life and making her own friends - and, of course, that sees the relationship between father and daughter struggle to retain...
