Durant una campanya militar al nord d'Àfrica, Marc Antoni coneix Cleòpatra, s'enamora d'ella i s'oblida de les seues responsabilitats polítiques. A Alexandria rep la notícia del desterrament del seu germà Luci i de la mort de la seua esposa Fúlvia, que estaven implicats en una revolta. Llavors torna a Roma per a unir-se a Lèpid i a Cèsar Octavi, que li han declarat la guerra a Pompeu.

Whilst this is a really quite good looking version of the Shakespeare tragedy, it's the overly wordy adaptation that drags it down. What director Charlton Heston and his writing team seem to failed to appreciate is that much of the original text was designed to complement the simplicity of the stage.
